A tractor’s hydraulics are its lifeline. A failure does not just stop the machine — it can ruin an entire harvest window. We see the same five faults across fleets, and most are preventable with a simple service schedule.

1. Fluid contamination (the silent killer)

80% of hydraulic failures trace back to dirty oil. Dust, water, and metal shavings abrade pumps and valves from the inside.

  • Prevent: Change filters every 250–500 hours and use ISO 46 or 68 oil from a sealed drum, not an open jerry can.

2. Overheating and viscosity breakdown

Heat thins the fluid, causing internal leakage and lost lift power.

  • Prevent: Blow out cooler and radiator fins daily; confirm the cooling fan runs before a long shift.

3. Seal and hose failure (external leaks)

UV and abrasion crack high-pressure hoses in agricultural environments.

4. Aeration and cavitation (noisy operation)

A loose intake fitting lets air into the system, causing a distinctive knocking sound and erratic hitch movement.
